Advocacy and Influence

Your membership fee contributes towards Music Mark's work as an influential voice, advocating on behalf of music education on a national level. Highlights from the past 12 months include:

  • Last year we commissioned the independent think-tank Demos to cost the National Plan for Music Education. The report revealed that the government has inherited a “black hole” in its budget for music education amounting to a £161.4m shortfall, and argues for an uplift of £32.3m per year to cover the costs of regional Music Hubs. We hope the findings of this report can inform future government funding for music education and will support our advocacy work as impartial research.
  • Bridget Whyte, CEO, gave evidence at the Education Select Committee to share the challenges facing the music education sector.
  • We have facilitated multiple meetings to influence DfE thinking on the National Music Education Network.

As members, you can influence our advocacy work so that we continue to focus on the issues that matter most to you. We love to hear about what's important to you, so please get in touch at any time to make your voice heard.
