Instrument Hire Scheme for Children and Young People

Our Mission
We aim to make musical instruments accessible to children and young people, supporting their musical participation and progression.

Key Information

Who Can Hire Instruments
– Pupils receiving tuition from an Associate Provider
– Primary Schools delivering First Access programs

Scheme Administration
– Administered by The Learning Resources Hub (LRH) within Wiltshire Council Click here
– Overseen by an Expert Group supported by Wiltshire Music Connect

 Instrument Availability

What to Expect
– Serviceable and suitable instruments for young musicians
– Not brand new or pristine (more affordable than commercial hire)
– Instrument sets available for school use
– iPad sets available for schools and associate projects

Financial Support Options

Hire Cost Reductions
– 100% reduction for:
– Pupils eligible for Pupil Premium
– Pupils with Special Education Needs and/or Disability
– Looked After/In Care (LAC) pupils
– 50% reduction** for vulnerable pupils (at school’s discretion)

How to Apply
– Subsidies applied automatically when requesting an instrument
– Parents/carers must indicate support requirements during request

Academic Year 2024-2025 Highlights
– Early starters in terms 5/6 can access up to 11 sessions
– Continuing hirers will be contacted separately about payment
– Scheme focuses on pupils of Associate Providers
– Competitive pricing maintained
